The pandemic has not slowed down mergers and acquisition activity in football, if anything it has increased. Whatever is happening in other sectors, globalisation remains a strong force in the game.
American sports investment company ALK Capitalis in talks to purchase Burnley. The move is the latest evidence of renewed interest from American investors in Premier League clubs after reports that West Ham United and Southampton had been approached by potential US owners.
The Clarets have been held as a model club in recent seasons with Burnley recording a profit in each of the last three campaigns. But the board have come under fire from supporters recently for a seeming lack of investment in the playing squad
ALK Capital is headed by Alan Pace, who has a Wall Street background. He was president of MLS club Real Salt Lake and recently bought football scouting product AiScout.
ALK Capital previously showed an interest in Sheffield United.
