The Financial Times today has what can only be described as an exposé of a secret group of bankers that I had never heard of, the IEB. Certainly fans of globalist conspiracy theories would enjoy it. What has this got to do with football? Apparently the long-term general secretary is one Eddy Wauters, a former professional footballer who represented Belgium. Apparently he played in the US in the 1950s and befriended Marilyn Monroe! He went on to become manager and later chair of Royal Antwerp football club. Wauters called an IEB member because Royal Antwerp were negotiating the sale of a player to a club in the bank CEO's home country and wanted to know whether the buying club had any financial difficulties and could pay the fee..
