This Sunderland blog takes a look at Sunderland's financial worries as relegation to League One looks likely. It points out that the latest set of accounts show the club losing £3m a month which is more than some League One clubs lose in a year: Concerning finances
It is noted, 'Ultimately, Sunderland will likely have to turn over a massive number of players this summer if we are to quickly and effectively restructure the club’s worrying wage situation in order to avoid any potential FFP sanctions. In an attempt at explaining just how bad Sunderland’s wage issues are, note that Jack Rodwell’s yearly salary is more than several League One sides’ total annual wage bill.'
The writer concludes, 'Ultimately, relegation to League One for Sunderland will be an absolutely enormous issue. With eye-watering debts of over £100 million as per the 2015/16 accounts, and losses of over £32 million per year, the club will undoubtedly have to continue to slash costs at a phenomenal rate despite already undertaking an austerity driven approach to life in the Championship.'
Sunderlands debts were 100 million a year ago but the club have reciceved 180 million in revenue since then. Most of this money has gone on reducing the debt which is estimated to now to be around the 60 million mark.

Well Jack Rodwell is said to be on something like £3 million a year -- I avoided the word "earning." If he was removed from the payroll it would make a difference. I'm not sure why a professional footballer is the only occupation where your part of the contract does not have to be fulfilled. If the rest of us decided we no longer wished to do our job I think they'd stop paying us.
