Hull head coach Nigel Adkins has admitted that a takeover of Hull City may be some way off. Reports have referred to chairman and chief executive Paul Duffen and two other possible buyers.
However, as Charlton fans know, sealing a deal can take a long time. Talks with one consortium have been going on there for over a year, but owner Roland Duchatelet has been insufficiently flexible over the price. Hull fans do not have much confidence in their owners either.
Adkins said that he had spoken with owner Assen Allam and added, 'It's a long way from being done from what I can make out.' Adkins was asked if he expected to be kept in the loop about the sale of the club and said, 'I'd like to think I'll be made aware of it.'
Good luck with that. Charlton manager Lee Bowyer has largely been kept in the dark and was caretaker manager for months before being given a contract until the end of the season. Hull are currently bottom of the Championship and any new owners might want a change of manager.
Duffen owned the club between 2007 and 2009 and took it into the Premier League for the first time.
Paul Duffen has never owned Hull City, he was chairman and chief executive. The owner at that time was Russell Bartlett.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the correction, I will alter the text.
ReplyDeleteHe also took them into the Premier League and not the Championship for the first time...
ReplyDeleteMore mistakes than usual! Need a fact checker. Perhaps I should ask the sports editor of our local paper who is a big Hull fan.
ReplyDeleteHull city afc badly need a new genuine owner (nothing left for any asset strippers!) new manager and a full compliment of coaching staff, so there's no easy fix, and I doubt there's the will anyway. We can't afford to employ cheap staff (that's what we've done this time and look where it's got us) I don't buy into the "I've turned down loads of jobs to come to Hull" statement of Adkins. In my opinion he was the only one that would work for the pittance that the the current owners would pay. Unfortunately I am now into my eighties, followed Hull City since before Raich Carter, when Major Buckley held the reins. We've been in queer streets many times during the last 70years or so but in my humble opinion the club has never been as desperate as it is now! I now truthfully believe we are now in axxxxxxx street
ReplyDeleteI am very sorry to hear this account of the situation at Hull from a long-standing supporter. I have supported Charlton since 1953 and the club has been put into a bad situation by the current owner. I'm not impressed by Adkins, nor was the sports editor of our local paper, a keen Hull fan, pleased by his appointment. A new owner is clearly needed, but it won't be easy to sort things out. The list of clubs with barmy owners is a long one.
