Chinese government clampdown hits Baggies owner

West Brom owner Guochuan Lai has stated he is unable to settle a club debt due to restrictions in place by the Chinese government: Baggies

The £4.1m debt dates back to West Brom’s former ownership under Jeremy Peace, with Lai having inherited the loan following his takeover in 2016. In particular, Lai points to the fact that the Chinese government is currently restricting sports related investments. It is bad news for West Brom, as the debt they’re saddled with is accruing interest – having increased by £400,000 since it was taken out in 2014.

Spurs to sell minority stake

Tottenham Hotspur is in talks to sell a minority stake in a deal that could value it at up to £3.75 billion and pave the way for Joe Lewis and his family to sever ties with the Premier League football club. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is seeking an investment that values the club at between £3.5 billion and £3.75 billion, including debt.
