Chelsea became first club to accumulate losses exceeding £1 billion, reports Kieran Maguire. The club had Premier League record operating loss of £235m in 21/22. Player sales reduced this by £121m.
Revenue up
£46m following end of lockdown. Costs include almost £77m of player transfer
write downs following some dud signings (Maguire suggests Chelsea fans can work
out who they were) and £18m legal dispute.
Total wages up £15m compared to 20/21. Chelsea bought players for £118m Sales were
£142 as club continues to be most successful in Premier League. In terms of income from departures overall
squad cost at end of season was £918m.
Chelsea spent £368m in the summer transfer window. January
purchases excluded.
