The Kroenke family first invested in Arsenal in 2007, eventually taking full control in 2018. After years of perceived lack of communication and ambition, supporters launched the “We Care, Do You?” campaign in 2019, which questioned their ownership.
Two years later effigies of 'Silent' Stan were hanged and burnt
outside the Emirates Stadium by fans protesting Arsenal’s decision to become
founding members of the ill-fated European Super League.
The Arsenal supporters who felt the Kroenkes were detached
and uncommunicative launched their “We Care” petition, gaining more than
100,000 signatures. The Kroenkes felt there were misconceptions about the work
they had been doing in the background.
Josh Kroenke said in a press conference: “Should we get a great result on Saturday, it’s not going to change or affect
who we are. When you win something, the sun’s still going to come up the next
day. You’ve got to get back to work and there are many teams trying to gain on
you, including some historically great ones."
“We’re going to look to strengthen because we know that
teams around us are going to get better. We have very strong foundations in
place to continue to build and try to sustain. Pep is just moving on and even a
few years ago, you think back to 2019, 2020 and think, ‘When is our win window
going to open?’ ”
Arsenal have been exploring plans to bring more of the
heritage of Highbury, their historic home from 1913 to 2006, to the Emirates
and possibly add more seats. It has been estimated one million people could
line the streets of Islington for Sunday’s trophy parade.
A fan commented: ‘The
Arsenal, winning on and off the pitch. Arteta has transformed the entire club,
from 11th to 1st, despite many doubting him. A lot of credit must go to the
Kroenkes for continuing to back him in his lowest moments. They are the model
club, and all achieved without a single financial charge levied against them.
The squad and infrastructure they have in place means they are only just
getting started.’
Very best wishes to Arsenal for success against PSG.
