Another £120m injected into Spurs

The Lewis family have injected a further £120 million into Tottenham Hotspur.  The injection is the third in the last year and the largest one so far, as the majority shareholders continue their investment into the club.

The injection comes in the form of purchasing new shares in ENIC, the company that owns 88.30 per cent of Tottenham Hotspur Limited.

The Lewis family injected £100m by the same mechanism in October 2025 and then another £100m in June 2026. While the money is for working capital, rather than specifically for transfers, both matters are related.

Spurs spent heavily in the summer transfer window on fees and salaries, including a deal worth a potential £100m for Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United and £85m for Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United, adding to transfer debts that were already among the highest in football.

The release of Spurs’ 2024-25 accounts earlier this year revealed that even before this summer’s splurge. Despite improvements in player sales, it was always likely further external funding would be needed to meet the sizeable liabilities Spurs have committed to.

Daniel Levy, the former chairman who was dismissed last September and still owns a significant stake in ENIC via family trusts, was given the opportunity to participate in the June 2006 injection but did not do so. This led to his dilution at an ENIC level from 29.88 per cent to 27.38 per cent, and in Tottenham Hotspur from roughly 26 to roughly 24 per cent.

On the pitch is still a work in progress, but fans are not necessarily hoping to see a finished product. People know that they are still in the foothills of a new era, with 10 summer signings and a new style of play. They were unlikely to gel before the first international break.

What people do expect to see, though, is a sense that the pieces are moving into place, that the teeth of the cogs are finding each other. That the players are becoming fluent in the rhythms and patterns of Roberto De Zerbi’s football, this shared language that they speak together. And that the great clicking moment — the bursting of the dam, the rainfall after a drought — is coming.   Despite the defeat at Liverpool, there were some positive signs.
